When I want all of those "modern conveniences" I will drive my modern. But when I am in my Town Sedan, I want it how it was in 1930 (mostly). I tell my wife when driven the Model A we are on "Model A Time" and in no hurry to get anywhere as we put Smileage on the car and everyone around us (mostly).

True, and I found it odd that a National Model A Club was "promoting" the idea by having an article about converting your Model A to electric. Seemed out of place for a magazine called the Restorer. INHO.

I think "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" for this car. If this was next door, I'd pass on it at the price. I see at least $5k to get it fixed up to what I'd want and for a full restoration, maybe $30k on top. Plenty of other nice Model As out there that are better investments...but that's in my personal opinion...others may (and will!) vary.

Yes, I agree with you 110%. While this car may have some curb appeal at 15-20 feet, I would expect to find this car needing quite a bit to bring it up to safe touring standards -or at least a local club car standards.

Many previous 'Restored' Model-As have really fallen into a state of disrepair due to lack of maintenance & upkeep over the years, ...and the expense to make them safe & reliable again has become expensive enough where these cars are bringing 'used car' prices.

What’s wrong with keeping as is. This roadster shown has some interesting modifications over its life. Make it road safe and not focus on the pristine look. Now I am guilty of doing a frame off striving to make as close as when new. But these cars will draw as much or more attention as the restored cars. I think there is room for both in this hobby.

I don’t think that you can just leave them in storage.

They must be driven at least a few miles every year.

Out of sight out of mind. The mice will find them. Things will lock up and dry out.

At least do a yearly service. Check things out. Lube what’s needed.

Funny you should mention that.

I drove that truck, spoke at length with the owner/builder of the truck, and some of my comments were included in that article. So, being somewhat familiar with it, I'd like to say this about it-
The truck was built as an experiment, a "toy", not for serious purposes. However, once built and being used, the owner changed his mind about it, and now enjoys it for reasons you may not have considered. For one, he is into technology, so it checks a box for him, so to speak. For another, that truck does an EXCELLENT job of attracting young people to it, creating conversation amongst the youth who are being "programmed" by their educators to believe that old cars are to blame for destroying the planet. I witnessed two of those conversations myself just in the short time I was with the truck outside the hotel in Utah.

I believe that truck, and eventually that article, could be used as ambassadors for the preservation of Model A and other antique vehicles in an ever increasingly (environmentally) hostile political discussion about personal transportation. Therefore, I agreed not only to partake and experience the vehicle, but also to contribute to the article you mentioned. I'm just looking at a much bigger future picture than some, perhaps.

I knew way before even making contact to arrange in in-person encounter with that truck that there would be people throwing hate at the build or the builder. My mind was changed the moment I saw it in person and heard what the builder had to say. Turns out, Dennis is one heck of a good Model A guy, and just wanted to try something different. And it worked.

Ronn, I don't necessarily think it takes a "rich" person to enjoy the hobby, -HOWEVER I do feel there are quite a few Model-A owners who can't really afford to take care of them properly. Often times it is the lack of maintenance -or making the proper repair of the mechanicals that is overlooked by these Owners.

Model A's aren't the only old car dropping in price. Muscle cars are going the same way.

Many 60's era cars have dropped an average of 35-40%. That isn't uncommon.
The interest just isn't growing as fast as we are aging out. My Corvette friends say there is not much of any interest in them anymore.

The way I see it, and what I have been observing is, the Vietnam era guys are the last of the hobbyists and they are hitting their mid-70's and 80's. And dying.
