Seems like the more examples I see the more different they are. No doubt time has affected original examples color to really define how the grain effect looked when new.

I note the o/p dash is installed and maybe you should settle for what it is although not exactly what was ordered. If not the hydro dipped method provides very nice results if you want to have it exact.

Well, dash woodgraining is $$$. And according to the grainer this is an original 1933 Ford woodgrain pattern; just not the original 1933 Ford burl pattern that I wanted and requested. Thank you -

Not to argue the premise you asked for “burl” and got a different pattern it seems that what was done is similar to what is in Ford pictures. If the vendor won’t redo it I guess you live with it or have someone else redo it.

Thanks much! Yes, this is what I wanted. according to the grainer this is an original 1933 Ford woodgrain pattern.

It's just not the original 1933 Ford burl pattern that I wanted and requested. Despite my order and payment in full, I offered to pay half the cost of burl-regrain the dash. He didn't respond to my offer. Thank you rockfla.

Patrick, I was about to mention David was posting to me but saw David beat me to it. I would call my dash without an ash tray a medium to dark gray.
Unfortunately, 3 owners back was a guy who restored 33-34 Ford radios and of course he put one in. I have the original side curtains that go with the original top, and some other previous owner covered the seats with 50s dinette set vinyl. I am leaving the car as it is. I can drive it to a car show and park next to a nice restored car and everyone comes to look at mine! My buddy Bill Steil restored it mechanically and I got it from him.

Mike-

Those 100% originals aren't made anymore - you got it! Isn't it good to see those approaching your "unrestored" as is termed today as opposed to "original", termed as we're used to. My '33 seat apparently was covered throughout its 90 years, just some tattered wear on the hard ends of the seat just above the running board area. The headliner is good as well except . . . the electric wire to the cab light apparently got hot once, so there is a dark line in the 'moosehair'. Fortunately, when it started smoking, the owner apparently remedied the situation! The whole car would've been gone!
The rumble seat has its original (vinyl?) or leatherette as Ford termed it. Generally dry and lightly cracked, -no large through-and-through cracks. - the result when the rumble was left open through the Massachusetts/Rhode Island winters and springs. cab seat springs and rumble seat springs have surface rust.

. . . . . I have paid full payment for what I ordered, burl walnut, per the grainer's website video. I have not received what I ordered.
If the grainer person/company would have the professional courtesy, personal credibility to reply to my emails/phone messages; we could proceed. Does anyone have a thought on that? . . . . . Just that comment. Thank You!

A burl is a natural canker on a tree trunk with many random grains, a very subjective thing. What you were asking for looks like burl walnut but maybe not what you had in mind. The fellow that did the job believes you got what was asked for, and maybe thinks you are a pest. Did you give him a photo of exactly what you were after? Did he give you any photos of what he would do? Sorry it didn't work out, but you will have a hard time in small claims court I believe.

He, being the grainer, then obviously knowing that . . . 'there are many random grains' as you say, CERTAINLY SHOULD ASK WHAT BURL ARE YOU REQUESTING; SHOW ME A PHOTO BEFORE I BEGIN WORKING ON YOUR DASH."
Your comment: maybe thinks you are a pest. Should be: . . . customer paying thousands of dollars to someone that advertizes as a professional, but isn't; i.e., But I'm making lotsa money on him.
You're obviously related to this . . . whatever he is. Hoodwinker?

Your comment regarding small claims court - I haven't mentioned anything about small claims court nor any other court. Do read all posts regarding this, and stick to the subject. Do read all the posts in this matter.

Thank You, rockfla! Is there a new '33/'34 Ford book being published? It was spoken of year(s) back. - Thanks!

My last post was my response to your request, my thoughts only. I have read all your posts and stick with my observations. My impression also is that you and the grainer didn't have a clear understanding/picture of what you wanted before the job began.

I've grained 3 dashes with grainit rollers and plates. Your dash look terrific to me and close to the original picture. Looks better than the dashes I did myself.

Before starting on your dash did you provide him with a picture of what you wanted or just say you wanted it "original"? Did you specifically say you didn't want it original? Looks original to me.

Before starting did the grainer provide a picture of what he was going to do?

I'm a relatively uninterested observer but the color photo looks a lot like the black and white one to me.

This is what you wanted? Doesn't look original to me.
