Per the host hotel's website, they've canceled all reservations into mid July.

We have had nothing but radio silence from both the hotel and the organisers. I understand that they would be under pressure so I’m not complying about it even though we have travelled half way around the world to be there.
Hitman, where can I find that info pls?

nkaminar, sorry for any confusion. The update I was referring to is on the MAFCA web site.

FIRES IN RUIDOSO

June 17 - Many members have heard of fires in Ruidoso that started earlier today. I asked the Meet Chairman for updates to keep you informed.

07:06pm - From the MCM Hotel: "Firefighters from all over the state are coming in now to help. Winds have died down and we are praying they get everything under control tonight. The fire is in a residential area therefore they are not going to let this burn. There are multiple planes on it as well. We are hoping it will be out tonight."

07:30pm - from the meet chairman: "We have spoken with the caterer. They are fighting it and it has not reached town yet. Her husband and son are fighting the fire. Should be under control no later than wednesday. Just say prayers for their safety."

June 18
11:00am - from MAFCA VP Ed Tolman: "The hotels and convention center are feeling positive about things at present and plan on being open for our convention. Updates from the Fire Authority will be forthcoming."

4:00pm - MAFCA Board will hold a Zoom meeting this afternoon to discuss the situation.

As we hear more, we'll update this page.

Blockhead, thanks. I canceled all my reservations for the road trip but I am having a hard time connecting with the hotel in Ruidoso. This is a real bummer. I feel sorry for Synchro and his wife and friend as they have put out a lot of effort to be here for the meet.

Per the local Ruidoso news:
"There are no open roads into Ruidoso, and the New Mexico State Police will have roadblocks at all entry points and they will not allow you to pass."

Neil - one SV group cancelled, the other (mine) is in Ely still headed in that general direction. However, MAFCA cancelled the meeting earlier tonight so we are still figuring out what to do.

I would like to applaud all of the individuals who put years of work into making the event a success. There is no doubt in my mind it would have been one of the best. Please, join me in celebrating their efforts. I am so sorry that their dreams will not come into fruition.

Please know that I appreciate your efforts and labor of love for our hobby. Nobody could have seen this coming.

I notice the letter released from MAFCA says refunds will be issued by requests to the convention committee. This group has undoubtedly lost money by having to cancel the event with purchased decorations and supplies. Please consider allowing the host club to keep your registration fees so they do not lose money. They WANTED to host this meet so badly that they formed the club for this sole purpose. I would like to see them succeed and hopefully host a convention in the near future.

Sending well wishes to those who have been displaced and the brave individuals who stayed (or ventured) to fight the fires.

I am sorry for many reasons as a New Mexico native and a Model A enthusiast of many many years.
I know many of the organizers personally
This fire is devastating on many levels and how do you plan for this...you can't... short answer. The Governor has declared a state of emergency officially so more resources can be placed on the efforts of fire fighting and supporting the evacuees.
The entire town has been evacuated and over 1400 structures lost so far....
my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all the affected in this...including those that have planned to attend.
Enough said
