For a stock system (C59 or 59AB) should you use an exhaust sealer at the flange in conjunction with the diamond shaped gasket?

Graeme especially if 1 or both sides have any deterioration in the flange faces. I even just bought a tube of the red hi temp exhaust sealer yesterday to repair my modern Ute.
