I find there are two different lengths of spark plug connectors in the 1930-'31 configuration. Which is the correct one, or are booth authentic for the Model "A"?

It has been my understanding that the longer of the two is for the Model B as the distributor is a little taller. The B distributor is taller to make room for the advance mechanism. Please correct me if I'm incorrect.

I always thought that the longer spark plug connectors were used on the model B . I think that length of spark plugs was the reason for different length connectors . The 3X spark plugs stand taller than the C4 and some other spark plugs . If a TOO short connector is used it will contact the distributor cap body . When the spark plug connector contacts and melts a spot on the distributor cap it can cause a short between number 4 and number 3 cylinders . I prefer the longer connectors because they can be used with shorter spark plugs, model B's and digfferent aftermarket heads with different spark plug spacing .

According to The Restoration Guidelines page 2-12 Revised 2011:
"The correct connectors from the distributor to spark plugs were stamped from 26 gauge bronze which had a copper color. From the beginning of production through May 1930 the connector ends were symmetrical (rather than offset). A new design was introduced in June 1930 in which the ends were offset (for more efficient use of bronze sheet stock). Both types were 3 1/8" from the center of the hole to the end of the prongs. The spark plug nut was round, knurled brass, 7/16" in diameter and 7/32" high." |

And every one of the repop connectors that I have seen are made of brass and not bronze. You can tell by the "yellowish" color.

Order them at A&L in Connecticut and you get the real ones.

Ask before you order the parts.
I only use the correct bronze ones, as the brass is too soft and more likely to come out of place. |
