Spark Plug Connectors

I find there are two different lengths of spark plug connectors in the 1930-'31 configuration. Which is the correct one, or are booth authentic for the Model "A"?

Re: Spark Plug Connectors

It has been my understanding that the longer of the two is for the Model B as the distributor is a little taller. The B distributor is taller to make room for the advance mechanism. Please correct me if I'm incorrect.

Re: Spark Plug Connectors

I always thought that the longer spark plug connectors were used on the model B . I think that length of spark plugs was the reason for different length connectors . The 3X spark plugs stand taller than the C4 and some other spark plugs . If a TOO short connector is used it will contact the distributor cap body . When the spark plug connector contacts and melts a spot on the distributor cap it can cause a short between number 4 and number 3 cylinders . I prefer the longer connectors because they can be used with shorter spark plugs, model B's and digfferent aftermarket heads with different spark plug spacing .

I also agree with every thing that The Master cylinder said in post number two . I type slow and The Master Cylinder had already posted before I got through typing . Sorry .

Re: Spark Plug Connectors

According to The Restoration Guidelines page 2-12 Revised 2011:
"The correct connectors from the distributor to spark plugs were stamped from 26 gauge bronze which had a copper color. From the beginning of production through May 1930 the connector ends were symmetrical (rather than offset). A new design was introduced in June 1930 in which the ends were offset (for more efficient use of bronze sheet stock). Both types were 3 1/8" from the center of the hole to the end of the prongs. The spark plug nut was round, knurled brass, 7/16" in diameter and 7/32" high."

A long time ago, Clem Clements asked me about the two different lengths of spark plug connectors, but I had no answer for him. While inventorying my stash of parts, I came across the variations in spark plug connectors, so Clem's question came to mind. Here's your answer Clem, several years later. Thanks Master Cylinder and Cape Codder for the info.

And every one of the repop connectors that I have seen are made of brass and not bronze. You can tell by the "yellowish" color.

Order them at A&L in Connecticut and you get the real ones.

Re: Spark Plug Connectors

Ask before you order the parts.
I only use the correct bronze ones, as the brass is too soft and more likely to come out of place.
