Default Slipping out of 2nd?

So if I'm driving up a long incline ( Bourne Bridge ) in second gear the Trany will disengage into neutral. Big problem ? Thanks

Before pulling the trans check for wear in the shift tower - worn forks, plungers, shift rails etc. can cause trans to walk out of gear. It's much simpler to inspect and repair the tower if necessary than to pull engine and trans or rear end and trans.

If it is not the tower, rebuild the trans with all new gears, shafts etc. etc.

Are you (#5) talking about the detent spring where the 1/4 inch ball bearing should be added. Had to think about that for a minute.

My experience with 2nd gear issues is that it is usually the gear. In my case worn to a "taper" on the teeth which makes it wont to "walk" off the cluster gear.

May be fixable without removing the transmission by removing the rear shaft/bearing retainer. Although by the time you walk back the rear axle at the universal joint, you might as well take the next step.

I would agree, and the taper can be caused by worn bearings, of which there are four along the shaft from the crank to the U joint. Also make sure the flywheel cover is dialed in to .006" or less.

Rather than the Bourne bridge, try the Sagamore.

How about the tunnel? Much more direct and only the locals know about it.

Swap out the top first if it is still doing it you will need to pull and rebuild the transmission
