Default Oil pressure sending unit location in a 41 pickup

Hey all. On my 53 255 the oil sending unit was on the side of the filter. But on the 8ba it was down on the back of the block. When we first fired the new 255 I had it on the block which worker as it should but leaked do to a crack in the unit. It was a pain to remove it but we did and we put the pipe plug back in that port and put the sender back in the brass TEE on the side of the filter as mercury did. Now the needle never stops moving between 5 to 50. Yes , I stuck a mechanical gauge in and its a steady 65 lbs at speed and 25lbs at idle. Would the sender location make this radical movement happen? Thanks, Tim
