Default Water inlet stud bolts

I am puting on a new water inlet neck. The stud bolts are about 6'' long. The bolts that came with the inlet are bolts, about 21/2" long. The car is a 1931 fordoor model a. Does anyone know if the long stud bolts were the normal size studs used in the passenger car motors?

I’am confused ? The water inlet is on the side of the engine and uses 2 1/2 bolts, the water outlet uses long head studs and screw into the head !

In other words, ..................... the WATER INLET is the small, angled pipe that mounts to the driver's side of the block, with the 2 & 1/2 inch bolts you have.

The WATER OUTLET (or as some of us refer to it, the "gooseneck") mounts to the top of the cylinder head at the front of the engine with the 6" studs you refer to.

Many folks assume the water flows from the top hose, through the "gooseneck", into the cylinder head and block, and exits the engine through the coupling on the driver's side of the block. In actuality, with the engine running, the water flows out the bottom radiator neck, up through the lower hoses and bypass pipe, INTO the side coupling (INLET), through the water chambers in the block and head, and is propelled (actually IM-PELLED) through the "gooseneck" (WATER OUTLET) up the top hose, into the top radiator neck, and, finally, deposited back into the radiator.

If there were studs on the side of the block that were used to mount the water inlet they are not correct. It is attached with bolts that have a 5/8" head.

I believe that the studs for the upper fitting (outlet, “gooseneck”) screw into the block and pass through the head. The head is sandwiched between the block and the gooseneck.

If it is the water outlet fitting being discussed, here are some tips.

I just use a gasket sealer and no gasket.

correct It is the water outlet. The water outlet... I received had the two inlet bolts. it sounds like the supplier and myself both were confused. I couldn't find the long studs on Snyders site. Thanks for the correction. This forum is better than any book I've ran across and I have them all!
