Default 1942/46 Ford Bumpers - are fronts the same dimensions as rears?

Other than the rear bumpers having the Ford script and the front bumpers having a center hole are they the same? It looks like the inner bolt holes might be closer to center on the front bumpers?

As in, can I run a rear Ford script bumper on the front?

Thank you as always for your help.

This is what I'm curious about, I assume this is just a rear bumper mounted on the front.

Believe 42/46 front and rear bumpers were the same in dimensions ie the bar and the placing of the over riders and were interchangeable ( although the rear had Ford script in centre and Front had a square hole in number plate area ). 47/48 front had the hole and horizontal slots in the number plate area and the over riders were placed in the same position as 42/46 (over rider was a different design). The rear bumper for a 47/48 was not interchangeable as the rear over riders were placed further apart.

The '46 front and rear bumpers do nest well suggesting that the dimensions are perhaps identical, as Graeme mentioned.

The bumpers and irons I found have the center holes wider apart on the rear one as compared to the front one. No idea of what year as they were swap meet finds.

Probably 47/48 rear bumpers as I believe this was the only difference.

I am in the process of removing front and rear bumpers from my 1942 Mrcury Town Sedan prior to sandblasting. What can I do to help with this question? Reversing them and loosely mounting them in the existing brackets? Would that answer any concerns? Might be a day or so, nut and bolts are soaking in PB Blaster, but should have off by this weekend.

Let me know how to help.

Thank you for your offer but I think the Mercury bumpers are completely different if I am not mistaken.
