Default 1935 Fuel Tank Replace

I bought the car with an inoperative fuel gauge (water level type) and an old fuel tank. But in a box with the car came a new fuel tank, filler tube, fuel line, serviceable electric 1936 gauge, and a new electric sender that fits the tank. I checked the gauge and sender on the bench and they work.

The question: The old 1935 tank has a vent in the top. The new 1936 does not. Attached are pictures of my fuel cap. which does not appear to be vented. Do I need a vent, and if so, can I do it with a vented cap or is there another way? The Drake catalogue shows the same cap from 1932 to 1948

Yes, you need a vented cap if you don't have a vent at the tank. 32-48 caps all LOOK the same from the outside. Some are vented, some are not.

Your locking cap is vented via the key slot.

If your 36 Ford fuel filler pipe is a true 36, the vent is inside at the cap. Small tube around the neck and to the outside of the filler pipe.
