Anybody have a pic of how this looks? What I want to see is, does it look weird and out of place or is it really not noticable. I'm redoing all the brake hydraulics on my '49 Custom and I'm considering a firewall mount master. I want to keep the mechanical clutch setup though

I doubt anyone would notice, especially if the two pedals lined up and looked alike.

That's what I was thinking and I was set on doing it. Then a buddy of mine said something about it looking weird and I started thinking too much about it

I have to chuckle to myself as I have the same affliction. I over think things sometimes so much it paralyzes me. In my opinion unless you're going for factory correct concourse judging restoration simply hook everything up and drive it for enjoyment. If, in the end, you don't like it you can always change it.

It might feel different to your feet when you depress the pedals.

After all these years, the feet can deal with it. As far as looks go, they become a badge of ingenuity.

When I was a kid, I had an acquaintance who did this. It worked OK, but looked, well, just wrong. He wasn't much of a mechanic, and it was the only way he could get a master cylinder to function. He didn't reinforce the firewall, and it flexed badly. I got involved and we reinforced the firewall which solved that problem. However, it looked terrible, and the whole thing ended up being a lot more work than doing it properly.

I used to have that arrangement in my 34. It looked strange but also means you have your master cylinder on the fire wall.

I think I'm going to stick with it under the floor. It is more convenient to have it on the firewall but in reality once the new master and lines are in, I don't see needing to get to it for the next 5 or 6 years if not longer. I'm also going to put an access door in the floor pan to make it easier when I DO need to get to it.

I've seen some older cars with the MC on the firewall and does not look right. I've seen cars like that where the MC leaked and ruined the paint on the firewall. Put the MC where it was originally and you'll be happy.

A Bones>>>As far as looks go, they become a badge of ingenuity.>>>
I changed mine that way. So, yes, I'd notice the ingenuity more than the weirdness right away 8^) |
