Hi guys I have an early 1928 model A transmission with the multi disc, my question is how adapted this early transmission for a spring center type disc clutch. May be changed the Transmission Main Shaft or the Main Drive Gear...

No, All including the bell housing & fly wheel must be changed...

I modified an multidisc bell housing to accept the later transmission input shaft and throwout bearing, lightened a regular flywheel, installed V8 pressure plate with A clutch disc. Did this in order to use the early clutch and brake pedals. Most people thought I had the multidisc clutch because of the bell housing and pedals.
This modification worked fine and is still in the A with no problems. Recently checked out clearance between pressure plate and early bell housing using the new 10" diaphram pressure plate; do to the low profile of the diaphram, in comparison to the V8, no modification would be needed on the inside of the early bell housing. Not really related to the thread but I have to ask.
I have always wondered what exact function the springs in a clutch disc do? I'm talking about the springs found in a circular pattern around the center of the disc. |

I have a complete multi-disk clutch ass on a transmission [with no shift tower] that was removed from a "totaled" coupe in the early fifties and has very low miles on all. There is a super flywheel that shows absolutely no wear in the splines. It's on a cracked bell, I suppose from the wreck, and the pedals & links are present. The insides of the trans show no wear at all. I got it from the fella that changed it out for his brother.[he's over 90yrs now] and, would you believe, the car is still in the family. I'll never use it. I'm in Bowling Green, KY Let it all go for $300 [email protected]
