I'm sure I will get the answer I need from this crowd so here goes.
I am nearly finished the restoration of a 1928 French car. (nearly 20 year project) The original generator was beyond repair so I have acquired and fitted a Bosch unit (from a 1970's or so VW). It has been about 8 - 10 years since I did that and when I started the motor in this car for the first time yesterday, the generator didn't put out any power. I am told that if they are left unused for a while, a generator might not work again at first. I am hoping that is all that is wrong with mine. I have seen mentioned on this forum in the past the need to "flash" a generator to excite it and get it going. Is there a member who can explain to me how I should do that? The Generator has 2 terminals on it, the output and one labelled DF, which is for the fields. Do I "flash" it while running or not?
