Generator Not Working - Not Model A
 

I'm sure I will get the answer I need from this crowd so here goes.
I am nearly finished the restoration of a 1928 French car. (nearly 20 year project) The original generator was beyond repair so I have acquired and fitted a Bosch unit (from a 1970's or so VW). It has been about 8 - 10 years since I did that and when I started the motor in this car for the first time yesterday, the generator didn't put out any power. I am told that if they are left unused for a while, a generator might not work again at first. I am hoping that is all that is wrong with mine. I have seen mentioned on this forum in the past the need to "flash" a generator to excite it and get it going. Is there a member who can explain to me how I should do that?
The Generator has 2 terminals on it, the output and one labelled DF, which is for the fields. Do I "flash" it while running or not?

Thanks Bob, that'll do it. I chose a generator from a VW because I needed the shaft to go right through so it could drive the distributor at the aft end. I'll have to take the distributor and generator off, energise it and refit everything, then retime the dizzy. A little time but nothing too difficult. Thanks again.

What if the belt SLIPS????
Worked on a '26 Studebaker, with a generator driven OIL PUMP--WEIRD!
