At what point in production of the 1928 and 1929 models and the 1930 and 1931 models did FORD distinguish between the years (28 vs 29 and 30 vs 31)? In other words what was the specific "change" that FORD used to distinguish the difference?
For 28-29 was it the change in the clutch system (Nov. 1928) or was it the change to the Twolight system (February 1929)? or another factor? Same for the 30-31 models? Thanks. Pluck |

I've been, and still am, of the opinion that the concept of model change is a new invention. in 28 to 31 it was an evolutionary change. improvements were designed, and implemented. Some occurred at the year breaks, most were just put into production when ready. The change from the t like coupe pillar to the more streamlined bodies of the 30 is an example of the necessary year break change requiring major change in production lines. The very early, early, mid and late designations and 28-29, 30-31 the the evolutionary type. The ve e m late, are arbitrary and applied be restorers as a shorthand description. ford`s year change was more marketing than model change. ymmv

For a long time, I had a '29 & a '30 5 Window Coupe, side by side. I could write a "book" about the all the differences!!! One looked like a FULL SIZED & the other looked like a MID-SIZED car. Even their "FACES" were different, but they both "TALKED" the SAME LINGO---------
