My '40 runs really rich as I have black soot coming out the tail pipe at start and I get poor gas mileage.
What size jets are recommended for 85hp - '40 and is there something else I can do to lean it out ? Thx....Mike |

Could be just a bad Power valve.

51 jets, but I think you'll find the power valve is carput. Walt

Yeah, you are at or close to sea level, so #51 jets should be just right for you altitude. Must be something else causing rich condition.

You might try a company called Renners Corner. They only advertise '28 to '34 but they might be able to help. All the jet's that I had purchased before Renners were JUNK. If you check them with a pin gauge they weren't even close. Renners flow tests every jet and gives you a paper showing the results. You can't ask for better service.
