What size jets ? My '40 runs really rich as I have black soot coming out the tail pipe at start and I get poor gas mileage.
What size jets are recommended for 85hp - '40 and is there something else I can do to lean it out ? Thx....Mike |
Re: What size jets ? Could be just a bad Power valve.

That would be the first thing I would check. Sal |
Re: What size jets ? Should be around 51 main jets.

Re: What size jets ? 51 jets, but I think you'll find the power valve is carput. Walt

Re: What size jets ? Type this into google:
running rich site:www.fordbarn.com Lots of posts here for 94s running rich. I have typed out the long list of things that can cause it many many times. Once only recently. This was it: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197943 Lots of things to check before changing jets. Mart. |

Re: What size jets ? Yeah, you are at or close to sea level, so #51 jets should be just right for you altitude. Must be something else causing rich condition.

Re: What size jets ? You might try a company called Renners Corner. They only advertise '28 to '34 but they might be able to help. All the jet's that I had purchased before Renners were JUNK. If you check them with a pin gauge they weren't even close. Renners flow tests every jet and gives you a paper showing the results. You can't ask for better service.

Re: What size jets ? Thx woodie I'll give them a try along with new power valve.
