General question---Not Model A

Without going to my neighborhood tire shop how can I break down the bead on the rim. I want to repaint both sides of the rims on my late 60's car and masking the tire isn't acceptable and doesn't stick. If it were broke down I could throw a rag between the tire and rim and spray to m yhearts content. As always, thanks.
