Duel water pumps on the 37

Hello Everyone...I have a 1937 Ford V8 Engine. How does one tell if both the water pumps are functioning as they should? How would I trouble shoot this?

Each side of the engine is a totally separate system. It is normal for there to be a temperature difference between the sides, but a large temperature difference would indicate a problem.

Take off the radiator cap and look inside. You will see water being pumped through each of the top hoses. If not. One or both of your water pump is shot.

And what if there is blockage in the hoses? Does that still mean the pump/s are shot??

Makes sense, so just get the engine up to running temp and use the IR temp gun on each side of the eninge block.

The only blockage in the hoses would be thermostats or restrictor
washers. Any restriction causes a higher running temperature. You
need a hand held laser pointed thermometer to find over heating
problems. If one pump is not circulating water or has some type of
blockage that side of the engine will run much hotter. It is normal for
a few degrees difference. With the laser pointer hold the gun about
a foot from the spot you take temperature readings. On a engine with
the hoses coming off the center of the heads put the red dot on the
metal just below the end of the hose. See what you have then come
back and we can zero in on the problem. G.M.
