Default Ford's River Rouge plant

Here is a great video showing Ford's River Rouge plant. In it I don't see any fields of seasoning blocks, but there may have not been shown. Also this is where I saw them casting crankshafts 4 at a time and the breaking them apart to have them machined.

Notice the RPMs during the dyno run? It was running at 4,500 RPM, that should answer the factory "redline" question.

If anything, this should also answer my crank shaft question. If knocking them over to break them from the mold doesn't bend them, not sure what would.

Loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Every time I watch this I see something else.
Maybe memory loss has something to do with that.

On the crankshaft casting...here's a detailed patent on the process shown:

Click on the PDF at top right to see the pictures and whole text.
There is incredible detailed work in there to get a set of cranks as close as possible to design with a minimum of excess to be machined away. They even cured a warping problem by casting the shafts warped the other way so the natural warp returned it all to straight..
Remember, the whole cast crank thing was a revolution when introduced.

Wow---that's a lot of work for what about $ 700 bucks per car in 1938

Yes, thank you. I've seen this several times, but enjoy it everytime I see it, I too learn something different.
