Hello Group, Happy New Year.
Who would you recommend that could honestly go threw/check out my 30 AA rear end. This is nothing I want to attempt to tackle. Thank you, Don Jr. ![]() |

Is it broke? I heard that the big truck axles are difficult to "set up" as in gear lash etc. It was the only part of my BB that I did not disassemble. I did the "pinky test". Drained the oil and put my finger in there to look for chunks or metal shavings. Found none. If it doesn't sound good it is easy to remove if needed.

Sorry about the loss of your digital test equiptment! Before you start toting the axle around to machine shops you can remove the hubs (and drums) and check the bottoms of the axle housing bearing races. If they are scarred or worn it can lead to axle breakage. I am not aware of any fix for this in the big truck axles. Let us know what you find. Do you have the high speed ratio?

The AA rears, if you're talking about the later bevel gear rear, are not that hard to go through and set up. The hardest thing about them is that they're heavy. If you have a copy of the service bulletins, they do a pretty good job of detailing what needs to be done to set the pinion depth and backlash. From what I've read about setting up an A differential, the AA's are the easier of the two. I know you said in your original post that this isn't something you want to tackle. However, if you do decide to do this, pm me and I can share my experiences of having done two with you.
