Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Hello Group, Happy New Year.
Who would you recommend that could honestly go threw/check out my 30 AA rear end. This is nothing I want to attempt to tackle. Thank you, Don Jr. |
Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Maybe contact Roger Newton. He is in western Mass. I may have his contact info if I look for it. Rod

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Don: Happy New Year to you and your Fiance (sp?). How about the guy in Westfield who did your p/up?? Ezold's?? Or too pricey??

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Does Tam's do this type of work? They don't respond to emails.....

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Is it broke? I heard that the big truck axles are difficult to "set up" as in gear lash etc. It was the only part of my BB that I did not disassemble. I did the "pinky test". Drained the oil and put my finger in there to look for chunks or metal shavings. Found none. If it doesn't sound good it is easy to remove if needed.

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild 1 Attachment(s)
It is not broke, I just want to change bearings, races, seals, gaskets and make sure it is ok for a piece of mind and a FAST ride...;)
I would have a problem doing a "Pinkie" Restoration. |

maybe you can deal with the guy direct |
Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild If you can get a hold of Roger Newton he can do the work for you.

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Sorry about the loss of your digital test equiptment! Before you start toting the axle around to machine shops you can remove the hubs (and drums) and check the bottoms of the axle housing bearing races. If they are scarred or worn it can lead to axle breakage. I am not aware of any fix for this in the big truck axles. Let us know what you find. Do you have the high speed ratio?

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild I talked to Roger Newton today, he said it is to big and heavy.

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild The AA rears, if you're talking about the later bevel gear rear, are not that hard to go through and set up. The hardest thing about them is that they're heavy. If you have a copy of the service bulletins, they do a pretty good job of detailing what needs to be done to set the pinion depth and backlash. From what I've read about setting up an A differential, the AA's are the easier of the two. I know you said in your original post that this isn't something you want to tackle. However, if you do decide to do this, pm me and I can share my experiences of having done two with you.

Re: Northeast AA Rear End Rebuild Tam's really has no one to recommend.
