Question side mtg tire on 1930 cabriolet grommet

Hello I am a newbie to this site just used it a couple of times and had great help! I all most feel bad about asking this but I have tried a couple of times to put a new grommet in the splash shield where the spare tire mounts.

Do you need to heat the grommet in water or need 6 hands to do this job?

I don't remember for sure, but I'll bet when I did one for a friend I used Vaseline.

Try using a bit of brake fluid for lube. It won't attack the rubber either.

Brake fluid can do a number on paint.

Use Ruglyde rubber lubricant. I have a can that has the Ford logo on it. I also have used silicone lubricant.

You can slice the gromment to make it easier to install.
