K R Wilson Axle Stand.jpgWe are looking for a K R Wilson Model A Axle stand for the Model A Ford Museum. We are building a period garage exhibit and this is the last piece missing to complete our collection. Any info appreciated!

Hen's teeth. Anyone who owns one likely has the whole setup including the box - and is wont to keep them together - either for prosperity, or for the profit.
There is a Model T wooden equivalent. Model T service bulletins p.70 has the plan. It's been a while since I needed a stand - and there is some labor to re-create. Joe K

The KRW picture of the stand is interesting as they show the early AA worm gear axle in phantom view.
I have one of those axles I just picked up - it is ONE SEROUS AXLE. You don't move it even with a pair humans to lift & carry. Mine is currently stood vertical with the two brake drums each saddled in a Harbor Freight "small" dolly. Its a little perilous, but does allow the axle to be moved by one person - CAREFULLY. Brother as a teen worked in a local foundry as a summer job. They cast MEEHANITE which is a higher quality cast iron commonly used for machine tool bases or instrument frames. If you had something you wanted "recast" - they would use your original and cast a "near duplicate" using the original as a pattern. (Shrinkage makes a copy like 3 percent less in volume.) His copy of our "Hessian Fireplace Andirons" still stands in my main fireplace. Alas, were even such places still in existence state-side. Joe K

Hitman,I understood what you are after.I saw somebody mentioned using a pipe vise to work on the rear ean,and I went off on a tangent and responded to that.Years ago I had somebody stop by looking for things like you want to make up a display.I sold him a KRW engine stand for the A.It was a rectangular frame set on cast legs, and the whole frame pivoted around to get at both the top and bottom of the engine.I believe it bolted to the pan rails.I used it to work on truck rear end chucks. It took up a lot of space.I may still have a KRW valve grinder with a setup on it to grind the valve stems.I actually had two of those, one went to somebody on here a few years ago.

One was available at the Mid Atlantic pre war swap meet last week. A 30 year old bought it to use.
Another sold the year before at the same meet. I do believe Langs had one at Hershey last fall. |

Nice to see Terry. You can't bring them with you, and while they go "loose in the wild", the possibility always exists that they will go "unknown in the wild" and make their way into a new Toyota Tundra.
"What is this old thing? - it looks like scrap to me." One wonders how much of our previous industrial world is gone because general knowledge of what something is or what something does is passed. Museums stem that tide - and give further value to what remains. https://newsm.org/ Joe K
