Default Marvel S. Carburaters

Looking for member experiences before I buy. Alternate driven by current Zenith prices. Thanks.

Great carb…
-Better throttle response and power.
-Simpler than a Zenith.
-Typically Cheaper than other alternatives.
-Readily Available.

Switched to a marvel and probably will never go back for the reasons stated. It's also complimentary to my higher compression head.

Here is where you can buy a freshly rebuilt Marvel at a very reasonable price. I have a Marvel purchased 10 years ago from Gary and it is still running strong.

Marvel is an excellent carburetor; simple design, fewer parts, better performance, and repair parts are available at Renner's Corner...
https://rennerscorner.com/index.html.

A word of caution: The Marvel is made of pot metal just like the Tillotson. Be careful not to tighten the flange mounting bolts too tight. Many people have the tendency to tighten them like they would a Zenith, which is cast iron. Doing so can warp the mounting flange causing a vacuum leak. Keep them just tight enough to seal the gasket and no more.

The biggest downside of the Marvels, other than being not original equipment, is they are not as sturdily built as the Zenith, not nearly as comprehensively documented, and don't have as wide a base of parts vendors. Consequently more difficult to repair. But also very reliable, so you may not need to repair it for years.

Probably 1 of the best carburetors for the model A. side-by-side with the Simmons carburetor then next would be the tillotson and then the zenith the zenith is really an antiquated design that's why it suffers from performance compared to these other carburetors!!!

Marvel Schebler and Tillotson were both divisions of Borg Warner. Both were good aftermarket replacements for the old cast iron Zenith.

So disappointed to hear Johnston no longer does carb work. His dad had the business before him. Unfortunately, his dad died from COVID and he was the carb guru.

Maybe not original equipment, but sold at Ford dealers for a replacement for Zenith carburetors. Even had a Ford part # at one time.

Fact is the Marvel Schebler and the Tillotson were Ford authorized service replacements installed by Ford dealerships starting respectively in 1948 and 1950.
In fact, they even have Ford part numbers with Ford drawings.

They performed the same as or better than the original Zenith carburetor or Ford would not have endorsed them.

The problem is that some people are not capable of restoring them to the condition that they were when they were new, so they downplay them.

ALL of the parts for the Ford released Marvel Schebler are available today.
