Default 1960 Thunderbird Cruise O Matic

Hi a friend has a 60 T Bird with a cruise o matic and it shifts to fast. Since 1960 had no modulator valve how you adjust this. I was thinking it's in linkage but I don't know how to do this. I have never mess with one before. Thanks BW

I had a few cruise o matics and all had a vacuum modulator valve, which could be adjusted. Bottom back driver side of the trans.

The 60 BIRD has a mechanical linkage controlled throttle valve (1st year for modulator valve - 1961).

It is fairly complicated to adjust properly. You will need the 1960 BIRD WORKSHOP MANUAL.

It seems like the more the valve lever is pulled the harder the shifts. Lengthen the rod should ease up on the shift. Make small adjustments at a time and RECORD the number of turns so you can go back to what you had if it gets worse.

The more the lever is pulled the higher the shift pressure becomes. The throttle valve, or TV for short, controls the shift pressure. At high pressure, it signals downshift when you really press down on it.

Good way to burn an otherwise good transmission.
