Hey all!
I have a 40 coupe with all original running gear. I was trying to turn the engine over by hand the other day and the fan spins on the shaft without turning the motor. I took the fan off the shaft and I don’t see any way to tighten anything there. It just seems to slip inside the housing. My concern is that I’m not getting the RPM out of the fan that I should be at higher engine speeds. Has anyone dealt with this, and is it even a problem? I can’t seem to find any info on it. I can tack weld the fan to the housing, but I’d rather not if it’s designed a certain way. Thanks for any guidance! Jim |

Ok great, thanks. That was my bigger concern, that the fan was slipping on the shaft and shouldn’t.

on orig 40 motor the fan is mounted solid to the crank, the later motors are belt driven you could turn that fan

The '40 crank mounted fan has molded rubber connecting the blade to the hub. I suspect the bond has deteriorated and allows the fan to turn without turning the hub.

There is a rubber dampener between the blade assembly and hub. If it is so loose you can turn the blades, I'd be looking for a replacement fan. You should be able to turn the crankshaft by the fan. Not the best thing to do, but it can be done and has been zillions of times.
