Bigger than 3/8", smaller than 1/2", probably 11 or 12 mm. The book says to use a 3/8 drive ratchet. It is pretty sloppy, but a 1/2" drive is too big.

You may have to grind down from the size to big.

The 3\8" breaker bar will usually lock in place and a tap with a hammer will loosen it. Most have been butchered up by people using channel locks or vice grips to loosen them. The suppliers sell a replacement that is actually 3\8" and the breaker bar and socket wrench fit correctly.

I bought a cheap brand 1/2" drive extension and ground down the end to 7/16" square. Fits in and I can use a 1/2" ratchet to loosen and tighten the plug. Was a $5 solution.

Buy a piece of 7/16" key stock from a bearing supplier or industrial supplier like Graingers or McMaster Carr. Cut it into sections use one and give the rest to your buddies. Its cheap

Yep, just an old 'shorty' extension. Ground it down to size and been using it for 50 years. |

I had a VW lug stud laying around so ground it to fit the square.
