Wee question from Scotland.
I have rebuilt the flathead in my 32 coupe, now 284 inch, compression is 135 each cylinder so not bad. PCV valve fitted and getting a bit smoke out the exhaust under hard accelaration / 5000rpm. I think this means the PCV valve is working with a dump out the inlet manifold. No smoking at idle so new valve seals seem ok. Any advice welcome. Thanks for looking. Dave |

I don't see how the PVC valve could cause the high RPM smoking. It is more likely your rings haven't seated yet.

Tis how most of us drive them, like we stole it. If I put a bunch of work building a "hot" flathead, id spend a good portion of my time trying to break it, after all that's what I built it for. Martin. |

Smoke is grey, engine is a French block so not a lot of miles on it. PCV valve is connected direct to the underside of the inlet manifold.
Thanks for the advice. |

Found the answer, drive the t#ts of it , if / when engine grenades stick in a 327.
I think that's what happened in1955 too. |

Living next door to this man, I can vouch for the fact he does drive it hard and he likes using all the numbers on the tach! It was me that noticed the odd puff of smoke as I struggled to keep up with him on our drive back from the Lake District.
It is a great driving car and don't worry Martin, he will not be allowed to put in a ch*vy, or any of these new fangled ohv engines in it, I will weld his toolbox shut. The smoke is a bit of a mystery, perfect compression on all cylinders, no oil water contamination, no odd noises, to be continued. . . . |
