A '31 Coupe has the windlace pinched in a channel on the front of the upper door. Opening this channel for replacement will result in some potential damage if I continue with my prying attempts. Is there a proven way to open and then re-pinch this channel without ruining it?

If it's never been damaged then the new windlace with the cardboard strip attached should slide in somewhat easily assuming it's made correctly. I believe they slightly pinched it at the upper tip where it's open at the rear.

It did appear to be installed as you say, but after 83 years, the old windlace had no interest in coming out peacefully. I made a claw kind of tool out of a putty knife and spent the better part of an hour digging out the channel.
The new windlace went in it two minutes. |
