Default Sticky valves Just quit

Took car out to free up valves. One quarter mile later engine stopped. Stuck on road. Mmo in gas didn't get za chance to work. Towed home. One other thing. I found that new distributor caps and bodied are not good. The rotor contact was hitting two of the contacts in the distributor body portion. Josh

Humkble opinion:

From your details, it sounds more like you have a possibe electrical problem or something else besides a valve problem -- valves "usually" loosen up & get better with an engine running in lieu of getting worse.

Agree with H.L, you gotta' get the distributor proper & maybe that's the only problem. If you can afford it, why not get a quality rebuilt or a new "STOCK" re-pro & it will give you years of trouble free service. Bill W.

my guess is you ran out of gas, or pluged fuel system, filter, gas line or plugged needle and seat, or a bad coil or condensor, does a spark plug fire when you turn engine over, any gas to carb

I've seen caps and rotors as you described. I've bought the body and rotors from Bratton's, Bert's, Little Dearborn, and Snyder's and haven't had a problem with any of these. I install the new parts, then hand crank and watch the rotor to make sure it clears all 4 contacts.

Rotor to cap clearance is .025" and you want them all the same for smooth running
