Default 1940 Ford Coupe front seat question

I just had a local upholsterer install a LB seat kit on the original 40 coupe front seat. He did a very nice job , but one question yet.....on the top of the seat back where the hinges are located, do these hinges get covered with any material or are they suppose to be exposed and visible from the top looking down? It may very well be correct this way , but just wondering.
maybe somebody can post a picture of their 40 coupe that shows this area?
Would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
