Re: Oil Drain Plug Gasket
Thanks, guys. I was leaning toward fiber as well. Seems like it will conform better to a somewhat irregular surface should the pan or plug be less than perfect. For less than $2 I'll get a stack of...

Oil Drain Plug Gasket
It's time to change the seal that goes on my car's oil drain plug. A small amount of oil is weeping out. It looks like I can get a copper gasket like the car has now or a fiber gasket. Is one better...

Re: 1951 Ford Brake Shoes
I second this. Fantastic write-up, Flathead Fever! Great info about replacing springs, and bits of metal causing noise.

1951 Ford Brake Shoes
I'm getting ready to reassemble my 1951 Ford's chassis and had a quick question about the brakes. In a duo-servo setup, the LONG shoes go to the REAR of each assembly, right? I have the 1949-to-'51...

Re: 59AB - Headers vs stock exhaust manifolds?
I like headers on a flathead, but not for performance. With this engine's torturous exhaust routing through the block, I doubt headers increase power at all, but I like them because they can clean up...

Re: Valve Seats?
Great knowledge in this thread! Just curious, why are hardened valve seats not recommended? Isn't there a risk of prematurely pounding away the cast iron, especially if you're running an aftermarket...

Teach Me Voltage Regulators

Re: 1939 Ford Transmission Gear oil
I just use Sta-Lube GL4 gear oil in my '36. It's readily available on Amazon. I prefer the 85W90 oil as it shifts smoother and easier, however, I run the heavier 140W as it leaks less. I'm kicking...

Re: C & G Ford Parts Outstanding Service
I've never talked with anyone at C&G, though I've ordered from them on more than a few occasions. Their prices are usually very fair and their shipping is fast and accurate. They get an A+ from me!

Re: Southside Obsolete?
Just ordered some parts form him a week or two ago. Still waiting on Fastenal to deliver my new front spring, but Fred is very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Two thumbs up!

Re: BorgWarner R-10 Overdrive Rebuild
UPDATE: OK, after ruminating on this issue and spending a little time tinkering with the assembled transmission, I've discovered the problem. It turns out, the governor drive gear does not mesh with...

BorgWarner R-10 Overdrive Rebuild
I just finished assembling an R-10 overdrive unit and accompanying three-speed manual transmission for my 1951 Ford. Other than needing three sets of hands, the build went well... at least I think it...

Re: Spring shackle bushings
I was researching this topic recently as I'm putting a new front spring on my '36 sedan. Based on what I read, I'm going to make the shackle bushings out of Delrin, modify the existing links slightly...

Re: Possible blown head gasket?
OK, after a busy weekend I finally had a chance to spend a few minutes in the garage to try and diagnose this possible issue.
Per FlatheadTed's suggestion, the first thing I did this evening was...

Re: Spring Shackles
Great to know. I went ahead and ordered some Delrin rod from McMaster-Carr, which had it for a good price. I'm thinking of making these new shackles with grease fittings for easier maintenance. Any...

Possible blown head gasket?
After a drive the other day, I noticed my '36 sedan spit a bit of coolant out of the overflow tube, which it will do if the radiator is overfilled. I pulled the cap while the engine was running and...

Delrin would be great, but man is it expensive! Have you ever tried bronze bushings?

Spring Shackles
What's the consensus on replacement spring shackles? I'm running a set of nice NOS units on my 1936 sedan, the only problem is, they creak and groan like an old man climbing a flight of stairs. I've...

Re: Flathead Cams
Talk to Pete at D&L Automachine. For a nice boost over a stock camshaft without being too hairy, he recommended the Isky 1007B, just like Ol' Ron did above. He ground one on an EAA core for me about...

Re: Pressure Sealing A Block
Yes, I've seen this on their website, too, and was curious. Sounds like a great way to make a slightly cracked block usable or to seal up any unrepairable or inaccessible pinholes.
