Re: spring

I think he's afraid that his spring has lost it's tension and is opening the valve at a lower pressure. More likely, his rings, bearings, and valve guides are worn, the pressure never reaching the...

Re: spring

That’s an interesting question, one that I’d not care to experiment with unless the supply of springs known to possess acceptable values has dried up. Pressure relief valves are not there for shits...

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation

To remove a stuck key, use a drift pin (not a center punch) and mallet to tap the key inboard and up the ramp in the axle. The key has nowhere to go but up and out.

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation

About jackstands, there are lots of choices, but one feature to look for in a good jackstand is a solid, flat base. 4 legs on the ground will not support the weight, one or two legs sink into the...

Re: Puttin a key in the drivers door

Buy a door from an export RHD Ford and be done with it.

Re: 1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

If you’re looking to do a minimal repair without removal of the banjo, take special care to salvage the gasket set from the driver side, if for no other reason than to identify and replace like kind....

Re: VE Day May 8th 1945

Thanks for posting this wonderful picture, Pete.
This parade at "Sling Arms" deserves a caption:

Re: VE Day May 8th 1945

I was just a little guy, but I still remember waving my flag out my Aunt’s window during the original VE Day parade on Mission Street in San Francisco. My big brother was also too young to enlist,...

Re: 1947 Rear Axle Worn Down

The old saying: Drive it till the wheels fall off! was never intended to be taken literally. 🤪

Re: 1939 pickup engine oil filter

A simple hard fiber washer is sufficient to seal the top bolt. The filters come with two different diameter rubber washers due to different canister manufacturers, be sure to use the correct one for...

Re: Pully came off generator shaft

The exact same thing happened to me during a cross country tour to the Grand Nationals in1998. I found a radiator shop to patch up the radiator so I could continue the tour. Back home a month later,...

Re: dirty oil. Why so quick

No problem with any of the previous answers, but here’s another perspective on the dirty oil question:
Any engine in any condition will retain dirty oil in every passage and every surface, to be...

Re: 1939 pickup engine oil filter

Fetch, as Kube points out, your filter is not original, so no need to salvage the damaged elbow. You can use the similar elbow as is if it is the return fitting, but if the inlet fitting, it must be...

Re: Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

I started this thread with an idea that I didn’t communicate well. I was trying to lament the loss of knowledge available to the new generation. The lessons learned by the real old timers and passed...

Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

It’s been a long time coming, but the changing of the guard is almost complete now. I remember back when I was a newbie, there were so many Ford experts everywhere you turned, you just couldn’t go...

Re: 1939 pickup engine oil filter

If you’re hellbent on tricking it out, you’re better off buying a new chrome filter, or better yet, a beehive filter.

Re: 35 Hinge Pin Mirrors by Drake

For questions like yours of correctness, the ‘35-‘36 book mentioned above is the source to rely on. Not to put down word of mouth advice, but the book is the real deal.

Re: Opinion needed on fuel pumps

A schedule of starting an engine, say, once a week, running it at idle till it warms up, doing this during a storage period of a year or more, sounds good so you can sleep well. Truth is, you’re not...

Re: Opinion needed on fuel pumps

Agree with the above, with the use of a normally open toggle for safety concerns. A toggle of this sort completes a circuit only while being held in the on position, and is used only to prime the...

Re: 12V ‘35 Battery charged starter won’t turn over.

The bimetallic breaker you speak of was not a feature on Fords until 1940, and even then, protected the lighting circuits only, no other systems. Until 1940, the light circuits were protected with a...

Re: 1937 ford jack

Dameon, I know you understand, but for those who don't have a clue, NEVER use a bumper jack. They are dangerous as hell for one, and if that doesn't scare the pee out of you, they can and will easily...
