You should be able to cruise at 50 all day with stock running gear, as long as the car is sound. Especially the motor. Older babbit + constant 50mph = a bad day. Every motor has their own smooth spot...

I've talked to a few people and even driven a car with a s10 clutch in it. You can push the pedal to the floor with just 2 fingers. And no chatter at all.

I know the model a school bus "Huff n Puff" has some sort of Mitchell overdrive unit. You might call Mitchell and ask if they offer anything for the AA. Don't expect it to be cheap though.
