Re: Violent shake.
Update on Violent Shake. It's fixed. I'd like to thank Dick Mortieay. He helped me figure out that I had a Mis matched group of parts. The car is a 1950 ford custom. Turns out it has a later modle...

Re: Violent shake.
I am in agreement with alchemy. Seem like correcting the brokeback pinion angle could not hurt.

Re: Violent shake.
I haven't changed the rear end. A guy just doesn't know what has been done by others in the past.

Re: Violent shake.
I don't know the history of the engine. It does run pretty good. Starts with no hesitation. The clutch wasn't oil soaked. I had the flywheel resurfaced.
Earlier in this thread I mentioned pinion...

Re: Violent shake.
Yes the problem was the reason for changing the clutch parts. Turns out the clutch was not the problem.

Violent shake.
So to start with I have a 1950 Ford Custom. I have replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and hub. I had the flywheel resurfaced. It also has new u joints.
From a dead stop the car...

Re: Got lucky.
Yes I converted it to 12V with a new wiring harness. The car does still have the 6v started. It has worked fine so far. The cables were ran as I described at 6v by someone else apparently. The car is...

Got lucky.
I found the negative cable to the starter with a bare spot on it to the front cross member on a sharp piece. If it had been the positive cable the car would have burned down. I'm planning on...

Re: Reassemnly
Yes it's a 1950 ford custom. I used an alignment tool on the new clutch. I was thinking as you guys say bellhousing first then trans. Just getting to the top housing bolts with the trans out is hard...

The unit have looks like the first picture you posted. I plan on looking at it closer tomorrow.

Re: Overdrive trans.
38 coupe is correct. I bought an overdrive I found on market place its an r10. The rear trans mount is about 1 inch rearward of the mount on my 50 ford custom. Don't know how or if I can use it....

Re: Overdrive trans.
I found 2 more OD transmission close by. Ad says they are 50/53 .
That means they would be 6V. Question will 6V solenoid work on a 12V system like a starter.
