Re: Oil leak

An update, I made a pan "diaper" to catch the oil and drove it under varying conditions for 20 minutes. In that time it pumped out over a quart of oil. Next I started to remove the oil pan, but can't...

Re: Oil leak

Bored&Stroked, I watched the leak with the engine running, and applied a shop vacuum suction close to the road draft tube, it stopped the oil flow. It seems if the oil was from a pressure source,...

Re: Oil leak

Would you keep the pipe on the rear main cap, or delete it? The flywheel is the deep dished type so the pressure plate and disc are inside a little bit, maybe some protection from oil.

Re: Oil leak

Third generation shows they have rebuilt original style oil pumps, I could drop the pan, check the cork seal at the back for a cause, replace the pump and install all new gaskets. That is about as...

Re: Oil leak

Kube, the oil is coming out of the hole in the in the flywheel cover. Where the cotter pin would be. I do have the pipe coming out of the rear main cap, although I have read that Ford stopped...

Re: Oil leak

The oil pump is a standard flathead pump from Melling, purchased at Speedway.

Re: Oil leak

The oil only runs when the engine is running. I don't think the cover over the oil pump to cam gear is a contributor sense the flow stops when I add a vacuum to the road draft tube. If that was the...

Re: Front seals

Well, I pulled the crank pully, and found the lip seal looked good, spent some time sealing around the seal, reassembled and restarted the engine. Didn't leak around the front seal at all, but an oil...

Re: Front seals

The seal was installed with the lip towards the interior of the engine. I pulled the pulley and found the seal looks ok, measures 1.50 with the crank being 1.3135 and the gap to the seal at .09375....

Front seals

I got my 1940 flathead running following a complete rebuild, and everything has gone right except after about 50 miles the one piece front seal is leaking. When I slow or go to stop it leaves a...

Re: More New Sheetmetal Products for Pickups

I believe that the 37 is the same as 35 and 36 with the battery access exception. The main change was the split windshield. Same under cab support wood, same cab to frame bolts etc. Minor diffference...

Re: Fender stuff - '35 pickup

I found on my truck they used a material like cloth electrical tape or base ball batt tape on the bottom of the inner fender to frame, also under the windshield regulator, and a few other spots. Anti...

Re: Installing firewall insulation pad ‘36 p/u

From the passenger side. Slide the shifter back into 1st gear and have the parking brake on. Is your panel fiberglass, or abs? I know both are available as replacements.

Re: Installing firewall insulation pad ‘36 p/u

It goes in pretty easy, just slide it from the side up over the steering column, then the whole thing goes up to the cowl. I use an awl to line up the pins that hold it on.

Re: New build (not fired), water in cylinder-head gasket backwards?

If the water moved to the other side of the engine when you swapped heads, it eliminates the block as the problem. Not an internal crack. It is a gasket or head problem. Since you swapped heads I...

Re: Door panel backing material?

Quite Ride Solutions sells door panels that fit your vehicle made of an ABS plastic with the holes in place and ready to go. A little pricey, but saves a bunch of time.

Re: Need Limeworks steering wheel help

The kit moves the wire down the steering shaft to a brass bushing on the shaft, a contact on the steering column runs against the brass bushing, then on to a permanent ground

Re: Need Limeworks steering wheel help

Lime works has a horn kit that moves the contact to the horn button area and also transfers the wire out of the the steering tube. My only problem was the length from the end of the steering shaft to...

Head light reflectors

My head light reflectors are really oxidized and dingy, what are you guys doing to rescue the reflectors and make them shine again? One headlight had a broken lens for quite a while.

Re: Flathead one piece front oil seal

We used the one piece seal, but used a thin redi sleave pressed over the pully sleave to eliminate the spiral groove.
