Re: Timing procedure on 59AB?

I simply cannot believe that Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company gambled the entire future of the company on a new V8 engine ... with a distributor that had to be timed by Michael in Tennessee with a...

Re: Timing procedure on 59AB?

FortyNiner, the picture you posted above has nothing to do with 59ab distributor timing. Not sure where you found that procedure .... but, it's wrong and confuses the issue.

Re: Timing procedure on 59AB?

FIRST ... what distributor do you have. Need to confirm that before any instructions can be given.

What gap did you set the points at?

On the small sliding index on the side of the case, which...

That's too bad. Don't know what he did, but ....

Things are starting to get rough right now. As I'm out and about (something I'm cutting back on) I notice folks are not smiling a lot. They are...

Re: removal of shifter plate on 41 ford transmission

Maybe I don't quite understand Gambino's problem ... he hasn't told us that much other than it's locked in 3rd.

Maybe, again, the problem is that the shifter is out of synch with the transmission....

Re: What's your "Go To" for a hard head?

Do not try to remove any studs. Odds are that you will break one ... and you'll be hating it.

I like Michael's slide hammer approach if you can fab up an eye hook to screw into the spark plug...

Re: What's your "Go To" for a hard head?

Michael, the slide hammer technique sounds good but that's completely Rock's department. He's finally able to work on his projects in his new shop ... and doesn't need anyone hanging over his...

Re: What's your "Go To" for a hard head?

Apologize that Rock and I could not hook up a conference call with everyone.

In his photos, it is apparent that the front of the head is raised higher than the rear. This alone will bind the head...

Re: Early V8 Distributors

"Why not just use a '41 helmet distributor that already has the 11A internals."

"... but this one I want to look original."

Sounds like he already answered that in the post just before yours....

Re: how to remove coil 1941 merc

Big Surprise! Here comes the electronic ignition, as I said.

Great advice to help him hot wire it ... 12 volts to the 6 volt coil.

(Seriously, you guys did not see this coming?)

Shame is...

Re: WTF?? battery 30V ?

Are you guys sure you want this guy hot wiring anything??? Next thing he's going to want to do is install an electronic ignition because he's not getting any spark.

He's probably already done some...

Re: I guess its time ???

Bubba,

I was never very quick when it came to distributors. Thanks for all your posts and videos.

I've worked my way up to being half-fast.

Re: crab distributor - only choice on early 21 stud ?

Mike, I'm working with "quite possibilities" here. I haven't come across anything that states one way or another what caused the change in distributor design.

But, consider when it occurred....

Re: crab distributor - only choice on early 21 stud ?

Quite possibly the change of Ford's distributor design was the result of the outbreak of WW2. Aluminum was critcal to war production ... with Germany outproducing the US in the beginning.

The crab...

Re: Bring back auto mechanics class

Funny that nobody in this thread has mentioned the US military as a source for vocational training ... and for a college education as well.

There was a time when those kicked-out or dropped-out...

V8Barn, have you used the KRW before on any other distributor, or is this your first attempt of any kind?

Re: Distribator off by one tooth - Pulley casting number

No apology necessary.

Interesting thing about the "wrong TDC" location is that it had a really good possible explanation ... if it had been correct.

There's an old adage in problem solving that...

Re: Pulley casting number

Which pulley are we working with? You said you replaced a 2belt with a 3belt. Which one are you having the timing dot problem with?

You are showing us the 2belt.

If it's the 3belt on the car,...
