Re: Brass wire ends install/solder

Thanks for responding...I have some soldering paste but don't know if that is the same as flux. Seems like a short window of time between heating the soldered wire and sliding on the brass end. And...

Re: !952 Mercury with 255 Flathead V-8 Will Idle But Not Gain RPM.

My 36 LB flathead had the same symptoms, and it was a plugged orifice that feeds the accelerator pump well. Different carb, but same stumble off idle...

Re: Any one have a tried and true method for this one

Re: 58 Ford Ranchero manual steering box pitman arm

I was told it was a 58 box. It does have the recirculating balls and does NOT have the hole in the end for the horn wire (57). I don't want to play around with the geometry, so I'll use the original...

Re: 58 Ford Ranchero manual steering box pitman arm

KULTULZ, I was hoping you would chime in. I agree, that would certainly simplify the whole deal. I'm just curious about there being 2 different ones (maybe more). The Ranchero was built on a Custom...

58 Ford Ranchero manual steering box pitman arm

Well, the manual steering box just gave up on my Ranchero. It was the roller bearings on the long shaft. Luckily, and I truly mean luckily, it gave out right in front of my garage upon returning from...

Re: Fuel pump interchange

Terry, you are right. I had to use some adapters to go from NPT to compression fittings. Luckily, I had two. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Fuel pump interchange

38 coupe, yes I have checked the accelerator pump and had the little check ball out(it was stuck both times). I will take it apart again and do a more thorough cleaning. I will probably end up taking...

Re: Fuel pump interchange

Alan, I did clock it over 1 click and it sits nice and close to the firewall now. Kurt, I didn't know about the screen in the original pump and I was wondering what that petcock was for. This is a...

Fuel pump interchange

I'm having issues with my 36 LB engine regarding fuel. There is no fuel filter so I want to add one. I have a fuel pump from a 51 truck motor with the built-in glass bowl filter. It will physically...

Re: 58 Ranchero 292 3spdOD Starter engaging in Run position

40cpe is the winner! And thanks for the other replies. I did have the two wires reversed. I was going by the length of the wires at the solenoid. Now that it is wired right the red wire is tight and...

58 Ranchero 292 3spdOD Starter engaging in Run position

Hi fellas! It's me again with more problems! My Ranchero don't know when to quit! It all started when my battery slowly failed. It is an old battery which gave me great service. At the last, when it...

Re: 272 Y-block oil leak- need help quick- show time

I half-heartedly remember hearing of a shade-tree fix for those filter plates that are warped. Something about seating it in a tube of the right diameter (maybe an old starter housing) and giving it...

Re: Cleaning out gas tank 1958 Ranchero

Thanks for all the replies. This is what I did....
Once I got it out and got the float assy out, I could tell it was only rusty where little pools of water had settled--not too bad.
I could also...

Re: Cleaning out gas tank 1958 Ranchero

I put the new tank in. I always use non-ethanol gas. My avatar is the only picture I have. Thank you for the fuel filter reference. Once I get the tank out, I will try to take photos to show the...

Re: Cleaning out gas tank 1958 Ranchero

Thank you KULTULZ. This was a brand new replacement tank from Bob Drake. The ORIGINAL tank was rusty and had pin holes and had the "sock". Maybe someone in the past put it in there. I am only...

Cleaning out gas tank 1958 Ranchero

I recently discovered I got water in my gas tank thanks to Hurricane Florence. Rust showed up in the see-thru fuel filter. I drained the gas and a lot of rust particles came out. I can pull the tank...

Re: Lowering my 58 rear on the cheap

I hadn't even thought about lowering blocks! 1 inch ones would probably do it. If I don't like it, I can always remove them. Thanks!

Re: 1939 - 1942 brake problems
