Re: ‘37 model 78 horn problem

You don't mention grounding which I think is the problem but your test results are puzzling. The 37 Ford horns have two leads; one is connected to the battery (solenoid terminal) and the other to...

Re: 34 trans help

I had a similar problem and the rear bearing was not all the way in. With the cover off see that the oil baffle just before the rear bearing does not turn freely. It should be locked in place by...

Re: Electric Wipers

I would not recommend a generic 6v motor like those available from Model A suppliers. I tried one and replaced it with the revitalized vacuum. Why? well it has a very small sweep area so you don't...

Re: Transmission woes...

Looks like the gear on the shaft is the "pointy tooth" model used in the 1950 up early style trans. Since the angle is different from the earlier matching cluster , the teeth will only make contact...

Re: electrically testing a condenser

A little correction to PeteVS's explanation. With the resistance test, the charge builds until the capacitor is fully charged and the current goes to zero which the meter interprets/displays as...

Re: Brake and clutch Pedal

My guess is that the trans has the wrong arm (say for a 35 - 38) instead of a 39 arm (which you can source from 3rd gen). If so that would explain the 1.5 inch extension on the pedal assembly. ...

Re: 1938 Ford 2dr sedan door latch

The early V8 Ford club restoration manual says the latches for a 39 are the same as a 38. Since the 40 bodies are similar, I would guess they are the same.

Re: Brake stud repair tool

Thanks, Bob, for the link. I mistakenly thought the swedge worked like a pop rivet, just providing a fattened end to hold the stud in place. Instead I see it compresses the stud in the hole almost...

Re: 40 gearset in a 46 pu case

You don't have to bother Mac, most of the info is in his web site. It shows two mainshafts for the closed driveshaft 3 speeds. The 81A-7061 has a pin hole to capture the thrust washer, and as...
