Me too. Love the look of a COE, and this one is just so pretty.

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

Possible, but probably more work. Working under the dash on the switch is not easy. Probably need to remove switch from dash to work on it, which is a tricky procedure in itself. Then you would need...

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

Yes, most likely if the dash lights work the switch and connection there is OK. (this assumes no one has done some unorthodox wiring, like connecting the dash wire to the switch's headlight terminal....

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

Ok, good progress. You had two separate independent problems, coincidently happening at the same time.

Rear taillights and license light is a solid black wire, fed by a screw terminal on the side...

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

Headlights are also protected by that circuit breaker, and his headlights do come on.

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

He got that spark by connecting the two wires to each other. Brake switch was by-passed.

This one is a head-scratcher. I have no idea.

Re: Stop Lights 1940 Ford

No. In addition to no brake light, he said headlights come on but no taillights and no license plate light.

Re: 59AB no spark at plugs

It should be noted that the 4.5 volts at the coil noted in post #3 is for a running engine only!
If you are taking a reading on a stopped engine, will be closer to 3.5 volts. Later with engine...

"In fact, we had a recent occupant of the White House voice his disdain toward men at the point of the spear."

Agree!

Who would have thunk it? Not me. Since I was a teenager I thought improving on a stock exhaust was a sure-fire...

Re: Hot Start 1950 Merc

Agree. Not applicable to this thread regarding a '50. Still felt the need to reply for those with a resistor, who may incorrectly think the resistor needs to cool down before they can get a good...

Re: Hot Start 1950 Merc

Have to disagree with that.
The resistor's voltage drop change cold-to-hot is only a few tenths of a volt. Not enough to make a difference.
The resistor gets so hot you will burn your fingers. Any...

Re: Tips for cleaning old vinyl Uphostery

Goop is a good oil/grease cutter with no abrasives. I would ‘t be afraid to use it on vinyl. Water clean up.

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

I did the cupcake liner on my ‘37, works great. But the ‘40 taillight housing is pear shaped, with the socket down in the narrow part of the pear. I tried the cupcake liner, a flash light reflector,...

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

The biggest problem with the 1940 taillights is the lens faces the sky, not the road behind. Not much you can do to overcome that.

Re: What weight oil should I use - Brand?

I’ve heard it said you are OK as long as you have some pressure. Your engine doesn’t need a lot of oil pressure, just enough pressure to get oil distributed everywhere.

Re: Condenser

And don’t all aircraft have two independent ignition systems? If any component on one system fails, the second system keeps the engine running?

Re: Tail light connectore

Aren’t those the light bulb contacts? Don’t look like bullet connectors. Wire looks correct for Ford taillight.

Re: engine stumbles under load

Glennpm
All of that makes perfect sense. Good logic there. If that coil is putting out good spark at lower amps, that’s all you need.

Re: engine stumbles under load

I think you meant to say target 4 amps. You get to that by having about 3 ohm total resistance in the primary circuit.
I = V/R
4 amp=12 Volt / 3 ohm

Re: Overheating 1946 V8

That’s good news. Sounds like problem was with a stuck thermostat.
But in my opinion you should use thermostats so engine will come up to temperature quickly. Then when stats open you get just about...

Re: Bucket seats for 50 Ford

Just about every car made in the last fifty years has bucket seats. One thing that makes our old cars unique is their bench seats. Why remove that?

Ok, I'll shut up now. Each to his own opinion.
