Re: Rebuilt model A generator with Electronic Voltage Regulator (EVR)

BTT - do you hate having to adjust the 3rd brush? This is the solution. The internal EVR provides completely automated voltage and current control.

Re: How to test '36 voltage cutout off the car?

I adjust them to close at 6.5 - 6.8 volts, but this varies as they heat up. But 7.0 should be ok. There is no separate opening adjustment.

This is a summary of things I do when rebuilding a generator:

-Completely disassemble, clean and degrease.

Re: Alternator that looks like a generator. Is there such a thing.

Sorry, but I do not have regulators. But most any quality 6 volt, 30-35 amp regulator should work. These are commonly used on vintage tractors also.

I normally just rebuild stock generators. I...

Re: 1940 6 volt system failure to charge

Sorry to hear that, ebay beware. That's why I post a detailed description of the work I've done, show a photo of the generator before final assembly as well as after, and a video showing it running...

I think they will, but you'll need to drill/file the alignment notches in the body.

Rebuilt 1940 generator

This is a hard to find 1939 - 1941 style generator. What makes it unusual is it only has one terminal stud on the side of the case. In 1942 they added a second terminal on the side for a ground. It...

If you are interested. I can rebuild your generator properly , including new fields. The 1940 generator pictured above is one I rebuilt, keeping the nice original paint. It is for sale too. Glad to...

Re: 1940 6 volt system failure to charge

If you still have the original 1940 generator, you are fortunate. This style generator was only made 1939-1941. It has a single Field stud on the side of the case, in 1942 they added a second ground...

Re: 1940 6 volt system failure to charge

To be clear, there is no such thing as polarizing a regulator. Only the generator is polarized. Polarizing sets the residual magnetism in the generator's pole shoes. Here is my short video on...

Re: Restoring cutouts

Ok thanks. Yes, the available repro cutouts are very poor quality. Original Ford cutouts are very high quality and are worth the effort to refurbish.

I just finished rebuilding this really nice, original paint 1940 generator. I'll be bringing it and other rebuilt generators and cutouts to the Richmond Virginia AACA meet this Saturday.

Re: electrical charging problem

The covers are spot welded on, usually with 2 spot welds, except the early type with tab terminals that have 4 spot welds. Filing the edge alone won't be enough to remove the weld. If you look close...

Re: three brush regulator

The March 1934 service bulletin has a pretty detailed description of the two-rate relay. I suggest reading that to get a good understanding of how it works.

Have you seen Dave Gunnarson's recent...

Re: charging

If it was properly rebuilt, the brushes should have been sanded in to fit the commutator. I do this on every generator I rebuild.
