Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
The tubular link is the tie rod and that should be straight. The mainly solid one is the drag link and is normally not straight.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Unless there was a gasket there previously I wouldn't use a gasket at the base of the pump. By using the gasket you have introduced a gasket's worth of end play. That will lower the pressure the pump...

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
As long as the axle looks straight to the eye it will be ok. A slight error in straightness will not cause the problem you are describing.
One question, though, are the wheels aligned correctly when...

Re: Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup
Ok. I have watched the video and would say your ackermann is screwed up. One or both steering arms might have been bent. With the wheels in the straight ahead position you ought to be able to project...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
No gasket between oil pump and block. The only gasket is between the oil pickup and the pump.
On the French motors they use an O ring where the pump fits the block. The O ring is quite thick. I...

Re: Oil filter emergency bypass
If it is the stock oil filter the car will run ok without it. If you wanted peace of mind that if it were to spring a leak (although that is unlikely) you could carry a 1/4 npt plug and the correct...

Re: Odd Frame Repair?
My 41 pickup had a really bad front crossmember, heavily fatigued with big cracks and loose pieces. Rough roads played their part and many old cars and trucks were ran with bad or no front shocks...

Re: My next flathead build?
The walls can sometimes be a little thicker right at the top. This is only from memory so please make checks yourself. I did have some success with an ultrasonic thickness checker.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Manual timing sounds like a bit of a retrograde step to me. What's wrong with stock?
Personally I prefer crab and 59A type cam. My French motors have been re-done as 59A crab type.

Re: Front Brake Hose
Ken, please confirm the year and model of the vehicle. Don't want to give bad info.

Re: Front Brake Hose
Just go to Rockauto and look up the parts. They list them.
Raybestos BH7600 for example. I didn't know the number I looked it up.

Re: 1947 Rear Axle Worn Down
You will need a replacement axle shaft and probably another hub. This demonstrates the importance of keeping the axle nuts TIGHT.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts
Hi GB. The cam gear bolts should be fine thread. Just make sure they are the right ones. If too long they will stick out the back of the cam flange.
