Headlights are also protected by that circuit breaker, and his headlights do come on.

He got that spark by connecting the two wires to each other. Brake switch was by-passed.

This one is a head-scratcher. I have no idea.

It should be noted that the 4.5 volts at the coil noted in post #3 is for a running engine only!
If you are taking a reading on a stopped engine, will be closer to 3.5 volts. Later with engine...

Have to disagree with that.
The resistor's voltage drop change cold-to-hot is only a few tenths of a volt. Not enough to make a difference.

Goop is a good oil/grease cutter with no abrasives. I would ‘t be afraid to use it on vinyl. Water clean up.

The biggest problem with the 1940 taillights is the lens faces the sky, not the road behind. Not much you can do to overcome that.

I’ve heard it said you are OK as long as you have some pressure. Your engine doesn’t need a lot of oil pressure, just enough pressure to get oil distributed everywhere.

Aren’t those the light bulb contacts? Don’t look like bullet connectors. Wire looks correct for Ford taillight.

All of that makes perfect sense. Good logic there. If that coil is putting out good spark at lower amps, that’s all you need.

I think you meant to say target 4 amps. You get to that by having about 3 ohm total resistance in the primary circuit.
I = V/R
4 amp=12 Volt / 3 ohm

Just about every car made in the last fifty years has bucket seats. One thing that makes our old cars unique is their bench seats. Why remove that?

Yes. And that normal variation in the applied voltage has a significant effect on everything downstream. Bigger effect than a few tenths of an ohm in the resistor. But everything downstream is used...

As already said, most engines want partial choke until warmed up. Don't push all the way in until after driving a bit.
