Re: Which Side Mirror?
I believe in functionality over aesthetics. On one of my cars, the external mirrors came from a motor cycle. I made adaptors to mount them to the windscreen post (Phaeton). On another, a Ute made to...

Re: Which Side Mirror?
Any mirror that clamps onto the edge of the door will ruin the paint, I expect. I ALWAYS use the hinge mounted ones

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
shew01, A lean mixture will burn the valves because of the high temperatures and there will still be some oxygen in the exhaust gasses. A slightly rich mixture means there is no oxygen - it has all...

Re: Homemade Radiator Mascots
I've seen everything from Kangaroos and Koalas to lighthouses and Michelin Man, windmills to propellers. As I type, I'm waiting for my 2 part liquid silicone mould making material to be back in stock...

Re: Real Wheel Noise?
IMO, anybody who hasn't seen how the hub wears at the axle nut end hasn't taken a rear hub off and apart. That wear allows the hub to "wobble" on the axle and will eventually lead to the axle...

Re: Rebuilt Engine Options
It's because the higher compression results in more efficient combustion. That shows up as more grunt and less wasted energy (heat).

Re: European Classic tires
Just confirming those tyres are radials. What price for radial tubes to go with them?

Re: sign of the times
When we are on a rally, I have to keep my eye on my wife or she will be in the driver's seat demanding to drive the next section.
One of our clubs runs an annual event strictly for women drivers. We...

Re: Rebuilt Engine Options
I run a 6:1 head on my Burtz engine and made a stop I screwed to the side of the distributor (with a screw like a throttle stop on a carburettor). The stop restricted the advance to 22° which was...

Re: sign of the times
The great Italian racing driver of the 1920s, Nuvolari grew tired of refining the car his team gave him to use only to have it taken from him at the last moment and given to his "team mate". In an...

Re: Well used A
I recently saw a sign on the back of a Model A which read "Save the planet. Drive a car that will last 100 years."
IMO, that is a perfect answer to those who criticise us.

Re: cam lube
I believe Henry burnished the bearings in his motors by driving them with an electric motor. They knew when the job was done by watching the current being drawn by each motor. Only then were they run.

Re: New Coupe
My advice is "Don't work on more than say, four things at a time." That way, you will be able to keep track of what is happening and where they are. Once an item is done, put it aside and start...

Re: sign of the times
I've driven RHD cars for so long, I can't imagine how I would go changing gears with my right hand. Might as well put the accelerator on the left. At least that is a constant.
