Re: 1955 Thunderbird 292 won't keep running

I would put it back to the way it was originally and get rid of that stuff in the engine compartment. If you must have an electric pump the design depends of if you're going to use the original...

Re: Auburn Clutch

My dad ran an Auburn clutch in his '32 roadster in the 50's. My guess is it had more clamping force, probably why he kept eliminating the gears out of the Ford trans.

Re: New Brake Master Cylinder Leak

some of the old brake brass washers had a bunch of circles pressed into them or maybe they were machined into them that helped them seal. I know they existed because we had a box of them at the shop...

Re: 1941 truck block A99

I was at the LARS. I saw your nice clean block there and the others the guy had for sale. I have about 20 of them out in the garage so I figured I didn't need anymore, plus it looked heavy. It's time...

Re: Okie Adams axles

It's hard to think we get so emotional over a front axle, but I do to. I'm building 40s era '32 roadster. I had several axles I had picked up but what I really wanted was authentic Dago axle. Years...

Re: KRW hub puller question

I have repro one that came in a nice KRW wooden box. It has a deep threaded nut that goes over the threads with an alignment divot for the puller. It works really slick. I heard that they stopped...

Re: Reds Headers

They are or were in Chiriaco Summit which is about in the middle of nowhere in the CA desert. There is Patton's Tank Museum there, because that's where they trained the WWII tanks. An airport, with...

Re: 6-pack or 4 in a row

I'm switching out the two-carb intake to a 3-carb intake on my dad's '32 roadster and changing the Isky cam with hardly any lope to a larger one which I already had ground. I'm hoping to find a...

Re: 34 Pickup

You got me curious. I have a basket case '34 BB fire truck hose tender with low mileage and it does not have one. I also have a '34 and a '33 pickup that need restoration, they do not have them. Then...

Re: 1933 V8: Troubleshooting...suggestions welcome

Make sure the linkage to the carb is adjusted so it's opening up all the way at wide open throttle.

Re: Thoughts on plastic fuel tanks

Most new cars use them, they don't get rust in them like metal tanks do. On Early Fords I'm more of an original guy, or maybe an old hot rodder. I stick to the metal tanks. Depends on if you're...

Re: engine stalls when given gas

It could be other things too, but I would start with checking out the carburetor. If it idles okay but then stumbles while you're pushing the pedal to accelerate and then recovers once you get up to...

Re: Here’s a whole ‘nother question

I think that the pre-49 motors required you to plug the passage if you did not have the fuel pump rod in there. Then in '49 the blocks oil passages were redesigned so that you no longer had to plug...

Re: Over Drive Transmission bushing

I don't know if an early Ford is the same or not but when I was working at the phone company, we had one of those tools above for taking the rear bushings out of the 1970s Ford, Chevy, and Dodge...

Re: What weight oil should I use - Brand?

I use the 15W40 "Diesel Oil" in the flatheads. The reason for the diesel oil is it still has anti wear additives which protect flat tappet cams and lifters which your flathead has. I was a mechanic...

Re: Timing advance plate - Crab Distributor

I had the heads off a flathead, so I went ahead and made a timing pointer out of a 1/4" stainless steel bolt, cut the head off of it and ground it to a point and threaded it into the timing cover so...

Re: How many of you are working on a 1932 Ford ?

My dad's roadster before he passed away from covid. Now I have it. Ran fine when it was parked. It hasn't been driven in 20-years. When I tried to start it the gas tank was blocked full of goo. I...

Re: pennies

That was a real thing. I live in SoCal and was told by some of old-time dry lake racers that were still around that they preferred to use the WWII 1943 steel pennies in the block, (I'm just telling...

Re: Gas under carbs on manifold

I was going to guess the jets plugs too. It does not look like it has too much fuel pressure and it's overflowing out the top of the carb, it's nice and clean up there. It's something down below,...

Re: Is this a widow maker wheel?

I was a phone company mechanic. We had three-piece rims on 1970s F600 4x4s at work. The Tire shops refused to work on them because they claimed they were "widow makers". So, we changed those tires...
