- Hi all, my first "hotrod" was a Maytag engined scooter built with paper route hard earned dollars at 14 years old, it was pitifully slow, but fast enough to go out of control and imbed itself into a telephone pole after "flying" over some mud puddles on our old dirt road..the nosebleed was only second to my pride been hurt as the whole neighborhood was watching...they went back to watching their black and white screens on the TV's...I walked up the steet and forked over my last $28 dollars for a 41 Ford. It had bad valves and had to be push started, but it held me captive till I turned 16 and spent $400 for a newer model (1947 Coupe)...I pulled the identical car out of a barn where it reposed for 43 years, about 12 years ago, got it running, added headers and rebuilt brakes and suspension bushings, new hoses for the Columbia 2 speed, etc. and it has been my driver since.
