bolt torque difference iron block & Aluminum Head
Ok, up popped a rattle in my Galaxie 289 water pump that has to be replaced. The engine had been converted to aluminum heads. The shop manual calls out 12-15 ft lbs, but that's for cast iron block and heads. Any idea what torque to use on the aluminum heads? Thanks Rob

Re: bolt torque difference iron block & Aluminum Head
As I remember, those are 5/16" bolts so the bolt itself is the limiting factor. 12-15 ft. lbs. should be OK in aluminum as spark plugs in aluminum heads are torqued to around 20 ft. lbs.
