Re: stromberg big 97
How about small base 2 bbl. Rochester? Far better carb than a 97!

Re: stromberg big 97
Dunno about the big 97,however Charlie on here supplied and built me a Big Holley 94 [lookalike- one of those later style carbs like fitted to a 272, but with a flathead sized base, that I fitted and ran successfully on a 284.
In a lot of respects, a Holley is a superior carb to a 97, particularly in a single carb application, and one of those babies would do the job nicely on a 265. IMHO

Re: stromberg big 97
No....Clive makes a special BIG venturi Stromberg 97; looks like a regular 97 but is totally bigger inside. For big cube engines.

Re: stromberg big 97
SomStromberg BIG97 carburetors feature 55 percent increased airflow to put out a whopping 250 cfm! They have the same standard 97 outside shape, but use enlarged 1.175 in. venturi with a super-efficient 20 degree entry angle. The accelerator pump discharge jets are smaller, and flared exit cones build power by slowing down the mixture to reduce turbulence into the manifold plenum. The result is 250 cfm.
Stromberg BIG97 Tri-Power carburetors feature: * Signature 97 outside shape and styling * Cast iron base * Reinforced airhorn * Early plenum effect: allows all cylinders to draw from both barrels, giving you dual-plane drivability with a single-plane style top-end horsepower * New power valve circuits improve fuel conditioning: feeds top-end enrichment directly into the emulsion tubes * Ported distributor vacuum: switch in the brass plug (included) and connect your distributor to improve combustion efficiency in cruising mode; you'll run smoother and cooler, with more torque and better fuel mileage * Big S-jet twin-ball inlet valve: accepts 5/16 in. hard line and standard Stromberg fuel fittings * Four finishes available: original equipment style, chrome, chrome/black, or barn find (patina)e details of BIG 97 Stromberg : Phil NZ |

Re: stromberg big 97
Hi Lawre
Sounds like a 4" crank and 60 over bore. Great combination. Yes the Big 97 would probably work just fine. Uncle Max might have more info. my biggest concern is the intake, can you bore it out to match the carb throttle bores. When I use the 2GC I bore out a Merc intake. On the stock car, I used a 33/34 intake and sleeved it. Well at least you'll have a much higher compression ratio. Might consider angle milling a set of heads as well. These are all old stock car mods when they had to look stock/ Take care Gramps |

Re: stromberg big 97
The 2110 model (Holley 94 type carb) that was used in '56 on 272 Y-Blocks, has 1 1/16" venturi's and larger throttle bores, that also flow about 250 CFM. Might be cheaper than new BIG 97's.
They are all over EBAY everyday. Sal |

Re: stromberg big 97
The 3-bolt Holley 2110 is a great carb for a larger cubic inch engine - should flow about 210 or so CFM. They made versions of the 2110 called a 'Bug Spray' for VW applications all the way into the 70's (though with a 4-bolt base). You should be able to pickup a 2110 for fairly cheap - just try to find the 3-bolt base version as noted by Sal up above(matches the 97 stud pattern). Obviously you'll need to 'port' your manifold to match the venture size.

Re: stromberg big 97
The 'special' 2110 that Charlie built me had standard size throttle bores in the base - no porting was required
